Dentures Explained

Dentures (also known as false teeth) are prosthetic devices constructed to replace missing teeth, and are supported by the surrounding soft and hard tissues of the oral cavity.  Conventional dentures are removable (removable partial denture or complete denture). Dentures do not feel like real teeth, nor do they function exactly like real teeth.  However, dentures do help people with:
  • Chewing ability is improved with a full set of teeth and dentures fixed using implants provide better denture connection and chewing ability
  • Natural appearance of the face by providing support for the lips and cheeks and correcting the collapsed appearance that results from loss of teeth.

Full Dentures

Denture: constructed to replace missing teeth. Conventional dentures are removable. However, there are many denture designs, some which rely on bonding or clasping onto teeth or dental implants.

Partial Dentures

Partial dentures are removable partial denture for a partially edentulous patient who desires to have replacement teeth for functional or aesthetic reasons and who cannot have a bridge for any reason, such as a lack of required teeth to serve as support for a bridge or financial limitations.
